When we choose armchair covers, the first thing we should consider is the material itself. As an option, we can choose some fabric chair covers which come in both natural cotton and synthetic polyester. Both of them have great benefits, with unique appearances and textures. Cotton is more durable, while polyester is more stain resistant. Both have a natural feel, but polyester fabric chair covers are softer and are usually more versatile in its appearance. Polyester fabric chair covers is easier to be maintained, although we have to be careful of high temperatures. Either option is very affordable.
Fabric armchair covers mask prevent further damage. We can change their appearance to match our home décor. We can easily change them by our self. First of all, we have measure the length and width of all of the armchair’s components which are seat, sides, arms, wings and add 4 inches to each, so that we can purchase enough canvas or upholstery fabric to completely cover the chair. Then we can cut pieces of fabric to fit each of the armchair’s components and cushions using sharp scissors or a rotary mat and cutter. After that, we can fit the fabric around the chair and its cushions and pin the overlapping edges of fabric together with upholstery pins every inch or two along the seams.
When pinning the cushions, we should also leave one edge free, so that we can remove and replace the cover later. Then, we should remove the armchair covers and leave the pins in place. Nest, we can loosely baste the edges together in long stitches with needle and thread and remove the pins. The next step is stitching the edges together using a sewing machine. After that, we can turn the chair cover right-side-out and fit it over the chair and spray the fabric with silicone spray for a stain-repelling surface.
